Financial Literacy Course
Financial Literacy
This foundational course equips students with the practical wisdom needed to understand, manage, and steward money well. Participants develop a strong grasp of financial principles through guided Socratic discussion, active real-life application, and reflective journaling.
The course runs for four weeks, meeting twice per week. It covers seven core topics: what money is, making money, saving, giving, investing, spending, and navigating financial danger zones. The final class is dedicated to group discussion and reflection, allowing students to integrate what they’ve learned and articulate their takeaways.
This course is designed and open for high school and college-age students.
Note for Parents: Parents are strongly encouraged to allow students to pay for the course, or at least a portion of it. As Thomas Paine observed, “What we obtain too cheaply, we esteem too lightly.” When students have invested in their own education they gain ownership and a greater sense of accomplishment.
